LAUNE x Sunday Edition
Like a slow Sunday spent savoring stillness. A quiet lull, a cup of coffee in hand. The mind a blank page; welcoming reflection, inspiration, the space to just… be. As an artisanal aromatherapy brand, Sunday Edition was born from a deep desire to slow down and connect with nature. The brand believes that scent is a language: it expresses the Earth’s beauty, evokes emotion, and transports us to a place of true connection. Founder and creative Sarah Szeto says “Sunday Edition is not just a brand; it's an embodiment of intentional living, a celebration of the present moment, and a harmonious fusion of beauty and functionality that enriches lives and spaces alike.” Sunday is my favorite day - the farmer’s markets, early mornings lying in bed, reading, going on walks and relaxing before cooking a cozy Sunday night dinner. These Sunday rituals have always been cherished moments in my life. Sunday Edition candles are the perfect candle to light when enjoying the ceremony of Sundays and given that each week LAUNE puts together the Sunday Edition, I just adore the name! Read on to learn more about Sarah, Sundays, and the art of living intentionally.
1. Tell me about Sunday Edition. How was it created? What inspired the name?
I founded Sunday Edition with the ethos of slow living, inspired by the universal significance of Sunday—a day of rest celebrated across diverse cultures. My goal is to infuse the essence of Sunday into everyday life, encouraging people to slow down and live more intentionally. The name "Sunday Edition" reflects this vision, drawing inspiration from the concept of Sunday as a day for reflection, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
2. What is the LAUNE (mood) of Sunday Edition?
Understated “it girl”.
3. Describe the style of Sunday Edition in three words.
Intentional. Minimal. Timeless.
4. What inspires you?
Everything around me, ranging from art, fashion, architecture and places that I’ve traveled to.
5. What does the creative process look like? How did you get interested in creating candles?
My creative process starts with inspiration. I take what inspires me and translate it into the design of the candles and the creation of their scents. I believe that a meaningful life begins with slowing down. After leaving a high-stress career in fashion for a more intentional life, I discovered my true calling: inspiring others to slow down and connect with nature. With my design background, I knew I wanted to develop a brand focused on art and design.
For Sunday Edition, I aimed to create a brand that is both beautiful and timeless. Candles, to me, are not just scented objects; they are art pieces. The artisanal vessels that encase the candles can be reimagined. Inspired by the Japanese concept of functional beauty, I designed these candles with both aesthetics and functionality in mind.
6. Tell me about your new collection, the Gaia Collection.
The Gaia Collection is inspired by the concept of Gaia, representing the Earth as a living being. This collection celebrates nature by combining clean ingredients and fragrances, creating a sensory experience that honors the natural world. Each candle in the collection is artfully designed to embody the concept of functional beauty, serving not only as a transformative scent but also as a cherished work of art.
7. Do you have a favorite candle? How do you choose your scents and names?
It’s hard to choose because I love them all, but right now, I’m burning Dawn! I select names based on my inspiration, personal values, and philosophy. For the Gaia Collection, the candles focus on the beauty that surrounds us, with each name representing a different element of the Earth.
8. What’s next for Sunday Edition?
There’s a lot in the works for Sunday Edition! The story of Sunday Edition is just beginning, and I have an expansive vision for the future. I’m excited to introduce more scents and a variety of new products. What starts as a treasured candle or aromatherapy essential will evolve into a ritual, guiding you toward a beautiful, intentional life of your own.
