LAUNE x Manor Of

Meet Manor Of! Manor Of is a digital fashion and lifestyle brand, community, and tool where people can be inspired to develop their personal style and overall image. It’s for those moments when you’re trying to FaceTime your best friend or sister to ask if that outfit looks okay, or to see what they’re wearing to the event you’re both attending, and for some reason they won’t pick up the phone. Manor Of is there to help you get ready for any occasion, whether it’s just running out to get coffee or planning the perfect first date outfit. Think of them as your go-to for when everything in your closet is laid out on your bed and you just have “absolutely nothing to wear.” In the manor of style, Manor Of can help with that. Below, I speak with Claire and Ryan to lean more about Manor Of, some style tips and tricks, and some of their fav spots around the city. They too love Pinterest, books, and all things NYC!

1. Tell me about yourselves, your backgrounds, and your work.

We are sisters who were raised in Michigan and would sneak copies of Vogue like most children snuck candy bars. Our poor parents were always being dragged shopping with us and forced to watch TLC’s What Not to Wear or Bravo’s Project Runway. We were simply obsessed and were never given enough outlets to express this interest while growing up in the Midwest. Between the two of us, we created plenty of gossip and shock with what we decided to wear out of the house, and we know there must be other people out there who would like to do the same but perhaps feel stuck with Midwest stereotypes and limited resources.

After graduating high school, I, Claire Manor, went on to earn my BFA from the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. I have spent the last three years in New York City as a fashion styling assistant to celebrities and high-net-worth individuals. I am now working as a freelance stylist (yes, I can style you!) and full-time director of Manor Of.

And I, Ryan Manor, graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s in Advertising before joining Claire in New York City. Currently, I’m supporting Manor Of part-time while immersing myself in various creative and fashion roles, including PR and social media. After broadening my skills and gaining experience in the industry, I will bring my expertise to Manor Of and and join my sister to focus on it full-time.

2. Tell me about Manor Of. How was it created?

Manor Of is a blend of cool and unpredictable—much like Ryan wearing white around red wine. Our brand was born out of sheer frustration with the typical Midwest style and the lack of fun in fashion. Manor Of existed long before it became a brand. We started by styling our family and friends in our living rooms, creating personalized Pinterest boards that captured their unique styles. It was in these moments that the essence of Manor Of truly came to life.

After college and gaining experience in the fashion industry, we transformed these insights into our brand with a mission to demystify fashion and make it accessible to everyone. We launched our site to guide you on which online stores to explore, the latest trends, how to style them, and which skincare items people swear by. You can also book our services. And this is just the beginning—we have plans to continue expanding on what it means to be in the Manor Of.

Manor Of is for those who want to dress like their favorite Pinterest boards without spending an entire month's paycheck. It’s for people who don’t have time to scroll through Instagram to dissect their favorite influencer’s outfits, and are tired of every other fashion site pushing the latest trends without explaining how to style them. We’re here to make everyone’s life a little bit easier without compromising personal style.

3. What is your LAUNE (mood)?

Our LAUNE is all about looking your absolute best with the least amount of effort and embracing the spirit of trying anything and everything. It’s like those late-night or early-morning decisions that could either be the worst idea in your life or the best story you’ll ever tell. We have never shied away from standing out and trying things that may spark controversial opinions. We aim to promote experimentation, curiosity, playfulness, and growth.

Over the years, we’ve gone through many different phases of self-image, constantly trying out new hair colors, shifting from preppy to edgy to sporty aesthetics (sometimes all in the same week), and getting impulsive tattoos. We want to encourage everyone to not be afraid of trying something considered “out of character” because we all change and grow so much, and our looks should too!

4. What inspires you?

Our inspiration began with our mom, Amy. Growing up, we used to be so embarrassed when our mom would pick us up from school in this ‘70s patterned poncho trimmed with pink fur, as other parents would stare and comment under their breath. As we’ve gotten older, we’ve come to appreciate the bravery and confidence that this instilled in us. Now living in New York, we find inspiration everywhere–from people on the streets and subways, to our friends, the books we’re reading, and (let’s be real) Instagram ads.

5. What are your favorite shops in the city and why?

We adore those little hidden boutiques that make you feel like you’ve discovered something magical, or the random thrift stores where you find that one eccentric find that immediately upgrades your entire closet. Some stores that never fail us include Dover Street Market, Café Forgot, Assembly NYC, Cure Thrift Shop, Search and Destroy, and Aberizk.

6. What will you both be wearing this fall?

Honestly, we are so excited for layers. Styling an outfit is so much more fun when you have more clothing to work with, and layering things in unexpected ways is almost better than a tajín rim after a long day. We’ve also been working on improving our accessories for this fall. Your outfit options can increase dramatically with the addition of a few new pieces of statement jewelry, a big scarf, a trucker hat, or an interesting belt.

As the weather cools down, we’re all for dressing as comfortably as possible. Catch us in jackets so oversized they feel like being swaddled in a big blanket, or pants with so many pockets our purses have become obsolete. We want to look like we just rolled out of bed but are still somehow outdressing everyone in the room.

7. What do you love about NYC?

The energy of New York is absolutely addicting. Every time we walk outside, we are inspired by it–whether it’s the noise, the people-watching, late-night bodega runs, or even the rats. Both of us moved to NYC without solidifying full-time jobs; we just knew we needed to be here. Great things just happen in this city; it is full of untapped potential. We have found amazing job opportunities and collaborations, met some of our favorite people, and created many core memories here. We could never think of moving anywhere else.

8. What’s next for you both and Manor Of?

So many more guides! Now that we are both in New York and Claire is working on the site full-time, we plan to release a lot more content. With Halloween around the corner, stay tuned for some costume inspiration soon. We’ve also discussed implementing a book club on our site because when we’re not thinking about fashion, we’re engrossed in a fantasy book that has us in a chokehold or the psychological thriller we tell everyone about unprompted.

Really, we want to make Manor Of your go-to site for all the good things in life: style, fashion, beauty, health and wellness, interior decorating, food, books, movies, and much, much more! Get ready—things are about to get even crazier and a lot more fun.

Rapid Fire:

1. Favorite designer?

Ryan: Iris Van Herpen, Kim Shui, Roberto Cavalli, and Laura & Deanna Fanning.

Claire: Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Daniel Roseberry, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Sébastien Meyer, and, wow, so many more that are eluding me at the moment.

2. What are three staple items that every closet should have?

Ryan: The Tank Air Studio Tank, a good pair of low-rise, baggy jeans, and anything red leather.

Claire: Ballet flats (hiding all my heels right now), vintage jewelry (if you found it at a thrift store for less than $20.00 you get bonus points), and baseball/trucker hats.

3. Describe your style in three words.

Ryan: Vintage, oversized, red

Claire: Inventive, polished, experimental

4. Early mornings or sleeping in?

Ryan: My mornings usually start around 6:00 AM when my cat starts slowly sticking her nails into my eyelids so I’ll feed her. If it were up to me, I’d sleep till noon every day.

Claire: Sleeping in–if only you could see the amount of alarms set on my phone, each with a different ring tone so annoying that snoozing doesn’t stop the beeping in my head.

5. AM or PM skincare?

Ryan: If you catch me doing my skincare in the morning then I’m in crisis mode.

Claire: I want to say AM, but realistically you can find me sitting in my red light mask and wearing under eye patches most nights around 1 AM.

6. Dream collab?

Ryan: Chewy - I want to do pet outfits for my cat, Tatum.

Claire: I love a collab you would never expect like Boy Smells x Magnolia Bakery or Beeby Bella x Plantasia. I would love to do something like that, perhaps Manor Of x Haribo? (EM: I can see it already!)

7. Favorite place?

Ryan: Book Club Bar or any goodwill.

Claire: Any tattoo parlor or billiards bar.

8. Favorite drinks spot in NYC?

Ryan: I just moved here–someone tell me where I can find the best bloody mary.

Claire: The Belfry and anywhere that has Empress Indigo Gin.

9. Favorite restaurant in NYC?

Ryan: Chinese Tuxedo, Pause Cafe, or Thursday Kitchen.

Claire: Mokyo, Van Da, Elea, or Rosella.

10. Favorite style icon?

Ryan: Madison Wild, IrisLovesUnicorns, and Daisy Birchall (A little niche but look them up – you wont regret it.) Also Shelley Duvall, of course.

Claire: Zoë Kravitz, Peggy Gou, Georgia O’Keefe, Cher, and Audrey Hepburn.

11. Favorite movie?

Ryan: Ponyo, Spirited Away, Burlesque, and The Royal Tenenbaums.

Claire: Alice in Wonderland, Howl's Moving Castle, Almost Famous, Dirty Dancing, and Poor Things.

12. What are you loving right now?

Ryan: Grillos hot pickles, rubbing my cat’s fat belly, and telling fibs to strangers.

Claire: Silver hair, fake eyelashes, oysters, watches that don’t work, banana pudding, and Phase 10.
