1. Tell me about Jumelle. How was it created?

Jumelle is a New York City-based jewelry company specializing in handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces, or as we like to say "two of a kind, no two the same", for our gold and silver pieces. Each design is meticulously crafted by Sabine Borthwick (me) on the floor of my East Village bedroom. I use the lost wax casting method which basically means I sculpt, carve, and mold pieces out of wax before putting them into metal. The company started in the summer of 2023. My whole life I have received comments on my jewelry taste and its uniqueness, so I thought why not make it myself! Jumelle is launching Collection II Secrets of the Sun on May 15th which is a summer based collection!

2. What is the LAUNE (mood) Jumelle?

Jumelle emulates a handmade feel. Each piece feels special and made with love haha as it is!

3. Describe the style of Jumelle in three words.

4. What inspires you?

The driving force behind my creativity and innovation for Jumelle is success. I know that may sound cliche, however victory fuels a passion and desire to create more and more. Whether it's the successful completion of a piece, having jewelry pulled for a feature in a magazine, or receiving positive feedback from customers, each achievement sparks a burst of inspiration. These moments of success push us to continually aim higher, to create more intricate, more beautiful, and more unique pieces of jewelry. It's a cycle of inspiration and creation that keeps me moving forward, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in my craft.

5. What does the creation process look like? How did you get interested in designing jewelry and how do you make your ideas a reality?

The creation process began with an idea after trying to figure out how to make a simple cuff I had purchased in Ibiza. The solution and idea was then brought to life through meticulous handcrafting and learning from my idol and biggest inspiration, my mom. My interest in designing jewelry stems from her creativity and passion for making of all kinds and she made me fall in love with the process.

6. Do you have a favorite piece?

I do have favorite pieces to wear but I love them all of course! However... I am a gold girl so the Iris & Soleil Necklaces from Collection I & Collection II (unreleased hehe) The Madeline Rings in gold, The Étoile Necklace, & The Sirène Necklace, coming May 15 10am!!!

7. What’s next for Jumelle?

Jumelle will continue to create and innovate, always striving to surprise and delight my customers with new designs that reflect my passion for unique, handcrafted jewelry. What is next right now is the release of Collection II!

8. What do you love about NYC?

I have loved New York City for 22 years now and will continue too. As a borned and raised New Yorker, the city's vibrant energy, diversity, and spirit of innovation are a constant source of inspiration and creativity leading me to the industrys I am now in. One could say each handcrafted piece of Jumelle is a tribute to the city's unique allure, mirroring its dynamic blend of tradition and modernity, its resilience and its ceaseless drive. Just as every street and corner in NYC tells a story, so does every piece of jewelry we create, carrying a piece of this city's heart within its design.
